India’s first DPDP-compliant vendor-neutral AI video intelligence

The AI night watchman
that already runs every night.

32 cameras. One supervisor. Zero hand-holding after sundown. Aarav fuses the venue’s existing ONVIF cameras with an always-on AI operator — running locally on a Raspberry Pi 5 plus a Kerala-hosted reasoner — to triage intrusion and tamper events in milliseconds, escalate only what crosses policy, and keep a BSA §63-grade audit trail of every decision.

Why Aarav

Three wedges the US incumbents cannot close in < 12 months.

Each claim below is anchored to a primary source — a competitor’s own published page, a statute, or a peer-reviewed study — and survives 3-vote adversarial verification. No vendor accuracy numbers, no “AI replaces guards”, no premium-discount promises.

01Wedge

Vendor neutrality

Keep your cameras. Get full AI.

Verkada's own Command Connector page documents that AI-powered search has "limited support" + "higher latency" on third-party ONVIF cameras, and License Plate Recognition is completely excluded on non-Verkada feeds. Aarav treats every ONVIF camera as a first-class citizen — CP Plus, Hikvision, TP-Link, Dahua, InSight, mixed-vendor sites — all share the same AI surface.

02Wedge

India compliance

Built for the affidavit. Built for the DPB.

Neither Verkada nor Lumana publishes any India-specific regulatory posture — their certifications are SOC 2 / NDAA / HIPAA / GDPR. Aarav ships DPDP Act 2023 Rule 7 (visitor notice + 72h DPB breach process), BSA §63 Part A+B per-instance certificate generation, and NDMA §6.3.6.1 quantitative trigger/action playbooks today. A 12-18 month India-specific build moat.

03Wedge

Cost inversion

~10× cheaper at the camera tier. ~3-5× cheaper at the bridge.

Verkada hardware MSRPs run $799 (indoor dome) to $5,299 (PTZ) plus a mandatory per-camera annual license. Commodity Indian ONVIF cameras retail at ₹3,500-15,000 (~$42-180) — an order of magnitude lower. Verkada's own May 2026 announcement attributes their price hike to "tariffs in the US" — a structural cost disadvantage their public messaging now admits.

Who we serve

Five Indian SMB verticals — pilot order set by research, not guesswork.

We pick verticals where the regulatory wedge bites, the camera estate is already in place, and we are not picking a fight with an entrenched 50,000-site incumbent. If you’re a jewellery retailer: we’ll tell you Securens is a better fit and point you there.

  • Banquet & convention venues

Live reference site at LA Mirage Convention Center (Thrissur). 32 cameras, mixed-vendor stack, every night since deployment. Wedding-season crowd surges are the canonical use case.

  • Mid-tier hospitals

NDMA crowd-management playbooks and DPDP patient-privacy retention align with Aarav strengths. Person-down detection (S3) and entry-foyer overflow (S5) are the high-value flows.

  • RWA gated communities

Vendor-neutral against residential incumbents that lock in to their own access-control hardware. Works with the cameras the society already installed; visitor-notice template ships in 6 languages.

  • Warehouses & logistics

After-hours perimeter, loading-bay coverage, and BSA §63 evidence chain for insurance recovery. Declared-CCTV warranty (IRDAI GEN2323 Clause 14) is auditable from the dashboard.

  • Showrooms & retail

Open after-hours intrusion, monsoon-degraded visibility, and §63-grade retrieval for stock-loss claims. Not for jewellery — Securens entrenchment makes pricing economics unfavourable.

How it works

Three loops. Running every night. Logged forever.

01Watch

Watch

A Raspberry Pi at the venue speaks ONVIF directly to every camera and runs a local YOLO presence filter to discard empty-frame events before they ever leave the building.

02Reason

Reason

A hybrid supervisor — qwen2.5:14b running on an on-venue Mac mini for sub-second LAN inference, with Anthropic Claude Haiku as failover when the Mac is offline — correlates events across cameras and opens incidents only when behaviour crosses written policy. Every call carries its reasoning trace.

  • Hybrid: local + Claude failover
  • Multi-camera correlation
  • Policy-gated decisions
03Act

Act

Confirmed threats reach the on-call operator on WhatsApp with a snapshot and a one-tap acknowledge. Footage is mirrored off-site to vendor-agnostic S3 within seconds.

  • Tier 1 → 2 → 3 fan-out
  • One-tap acknowledge
  • Off-site evidence backup

Hardware ladder

Right-size the bridge. Keep the cameras you already own.

Aarav’s edge tier scales with camera count, not vendor lock-in. Verified against Frigate published benchmarks and NVIDIA official specs (3-0).

What we are not

We will not lie to you to sell this.

Every Aarav buyer gets the limits in writing before the contract. These are the things you will hear from other vendors that you will not hear from us.

  • We do not prevent crime. We detect and escalate it faster than a human watchman.

  • We do not promise an insurance premium discount. No IRDAI circular grants one for AI-CCTV; we tell you up front.

  • We are not IS 15835 compliant. IS 15835 is a fire-suppression standard. No Indian alarm-monitoring standard exists yet; we benchmark against the Central Bank of India 2021 ATM RFP — 95% uptime, 2-day footage delivery.

  • We do not advertise vendor accuracy numbers we cannot independently reproduce. The UHCTD 2019 benchmark — the only public tamper-detection dataset — caps at 78% detection with a 26% false-positive rate.

  • We do not do face recognition against known-bad lists. The Phase 4 roster face-matching branch is archived; that was a deliberate choice.

  • We do not store footage we do not need. DPDP-compliant retention windows are configurable per camera, and the visitor notice template ships with the install.

Live deployment — LA Mirage Convention Center · Thrissur

32 cameras. Operational since 2026-06-05.

5 InSight S485 AI cameras handle the entrance and side approaches with on-board intrusion and line-crossing detectors. 8 TP-Link VIGI cameras add interior coverage, and 19 CP Plus (Dahua OEM) units form the outer rail-facing perimeter. A single Raspberry Pi 5 pulls every detector event over ONVIF and ships triaged incidents to a Kerala-hosted supervisor in under 200 milliseconds end-to-end.
